WEST BANK OF LUXOR
THE COLOSSI OF MEMNON.
This gigantic pair of statues originally fronted the mortuary of Menophis III, once the largest complex of the West Bank.
VALLEY OF THE KINGS.
For five hundred years it was the burial place of Egypt`s New Kingdom rulers. 63 tombs and 20 unfinished pits have been found here. The ticket is guilty for 3 tombs, choose from each dynasty:
18. Dynasty: tomb 34, 35 or 43
19.Dynasty: tomb 8,47
20. Dynasty: tomb 9 or 11 ( one of the biggest)
Extra ticket for tomb 62 ( Tutankhamon) and tomb 6 ( Ramses IX)
VALLEY OF THE QUEENS.
The ancient name means " The place of Beauty" and is burial place during The New Kingdom for several royal wives ( Nefertiti), princesses and prvbout 90 tombs and pits have been located, many are anonymous tombs and other are unfinished. 3 are open all from the reign of Ramses III.
DEIR EL MEDINA.
The men responsible for cutting and decoration the tombs of The New Kingdom lived with their families in the village. We know about the life in the village from papyri and ostraca. Few tombs belong to the village, f.ex. Tomb of Sennedjem.
DEIR EL BAHARI.
The Memorial Temple of Hatshepsut with the famous expedition to punt depicted, offers you a breathtaking view.
RAMESSEUM.
Ramses II started to build this memorial temple at the beginning of his reign called it " The Temple of Millions of Years". Inside you find reliefs of the Battle of Kadesh and the fallen colossus of Ramses II, once more than 18m tall.
TOMBS OF NOBLES.
Of several thousand noble`s tombs identifies in the Theban Necropolis, 19 tombs are oben today. Visit at least TT 100 Rekhmire and TT 55 Ramose.
TEMPLE OF SETY 1.
Memorial Temple of Sety 1 with reliefs completed of his son Ramses 2. Inside the temple are chapels for Ramses1, the father of Saty 1.
TEMPLE OF MERNEPTAH.
It is the site to trace the temple`s original plan and to see examples of its statuary and wall reliefs,. Take also a look at the small museum and the store rooms with some very fine places.
HOWARD CARTER HOUSE.
The house is displayed as in the time of Howard Carter, when he discovered the tomb of Tutankhamon.
HOT AIR BALLOON.
Have a balloon ride by sunrise with a beautiful view to The Theban Necropolis and the West Bank from the air.
A BOAT RIDE.
After visiting temples and tombs then relax in the afternoon with a boat ride ( felucca or smal motor boat) to Banana Island or just enjoy the sunset from the Nile.
CAMEL RIDE.
Go by camel through fields and villages for 1 hour.
THE PATHS IN THE MOUNTAIN.
Paths from Deir el Bahari and Valley of the Kings to Deir el Medina and Valley of the Queens offer a marvelous view toe the area.
COUNTRY SIDE BY CAR.
Go by car through the fertile green along the Nile with fields, villages and palm trees to the edge of the desert and view to the mountains.
MONASTERY OF ST. TAWDROS.
This old Coptic monastery and church at the edge of the desert have incorporated Paranoiac, Greek and Roman masonry.
MALQATTA.
In ancient time the palace of Amenophis III, but today only few remain. The University of Waseka has been excavating and found small places of the decoration.
EAST BANK OF LUXOR
LUXOR TEMPLE.
The temple is dedicated to the Theban Triade (Amun, Mutt and Khonsu) build of Amenophis III and Ramses II with reliefs of the famous Battle of Kadesh.
KARNAK TEMPLE.
During 1300 years the kings had been built in this area. Karnak is a complex of temples; the biggest is the Amun Temple build with 2 axes. It`s Hypostyle Hall covering 6000 sq.m with 124 columns. Tutmosis III build The Jubilee Temple with the Festival Hall. In The Open Air Museum are displayed blocks and reconstructions of earlier buildings.
SOUND AND LIGHT SHOW (KARNAK).
Go through the temple to the sacred lake by night and enjoy the magnificent spirit.
LUXOR MUSEUM.
The museum displayes a collection of statues, funeral goods and 2 mummies for the local tamples and The Theban Necropolis in a very beautiful way. Dispalyed is also a wall with talatat ( small blocks of sandstone) from the time of Akhenaton, found as fillter for the 9. Pylon.
AVENUE OF SPHINXES.
The avenue flanked by sphinxes led once from Karnak to Luxor templetes. Today the avenue with pavement and sphinxes is cleared and possible to follow the whole way.
TRIP BY CALESH AROUND IN LUXOR ( 1 HOUR).
A nice way to look at the city of Luxor.
BAZAAR STREET.
A guided walk through the bazaar street and connecting streets by feet.
NILE CRUISE TO ASWAN.
It is possible to go by 4 or 5 stars cruise boat to Aswan and visit the temples Kom Ombo and Edfu on your way. You can go back to Luxor by cruise boat or by car.
MUMMIFICATION MUSEUM.
It explains the history and practice of mummification and beliefs surrounding it..
